Update: Employees of the law firm Leigh Day arrested after criticism of the Vedanta subsidiary KCM in Zambia

Leigh Day, an international law firm, represents some 1800 Zambian farmers in their accusation against the mining company Konkola Coppermines plc (KCM), a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources. The company is accused of having contaminated the groundwater in the course of its copper production, contaminated soils and damaged the health of the population.

Codelco is forced to close down copper mines due to continued strikes

There have been ongoing strikes since July 21th 2015 by contract workers in the copper mining industry in Chile. State-owned Codelco, biggest copper producer in Chile and owner of the mines targeted by the protesters had to halt the Chuquicamata and Ministro Hales mines and put a stop to daily production because the strikes had overtaken.   ... →
