The Singapore based Wilmar is the largest global processor and merchandiser of palm and lauric oil and a major oil palm plantation owner. With more then 88000 employees they work in over 20 countries across the globe, with a focus on Malaysia, China and India.
As palmoil is used in many products, from lipstick and packaged food to body lotion and biofuels, Wilmar has seen its revenues steadily going up in the last few years to 1.60 billion dollar in 2011.
Wilmar has been named and shamed in several significant cases of illegal logging in rainforests, habitat destruction of endangered species, setting forests on fire and violating the rights of local communities in Indonesia.
