Facing Finance examined the extent to which the 37 largest charitable foundations in Germany take sustainability criteria into account in their investment decisions, and the extent to which they make this information available publicly or in direct dialogue. Here are the findings:
Foundations are wealthy but mostly opaque investors: the foundations surveyed hold financial assets worth at least €30.9 billion. Only half of the foundations have references to ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria.
