In January 2014 the European Parliament adopted new rules on public procurement. The new rules determine a new criteria for awarding contracts on public tenders. Instead of granting the contract to the cheapest offer, applicants now have to take social and environmental aspects into consideration. According to the rules, a contract will be given to the “most economically advantageous tender” (the “MEAT” – criteria).
The new rules have to be adopted within two years in the Member States.
