Greenpeace: Harmful Substances in Children‘s Clothes

Research by the environmental organization, Greenpeace, revealed large amounts of harmful substances such as plasticizers, nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE) and per-and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in children’s clothing and shoes. According to Greenpeace, some of these substances affect hormone levels, while others can lead to cancer. Instances of water contamination in producing countries is also a major concern. Unfortunately, price is not an indicator of quality: textile contamination as rampant in high-end labels like adidas, Burberry, H&M, and American Apparel as it is in cheaper labels, like those sold by Primark.
