German arms export report 2012 provides alarming figures

On Wednesday 20th of November the federal cabinet presented the armament export report of 2012. Altogether exports in the amount of 8.87 billion Euro had been approved. Only 1% of 16.380 proposals were rejected. The export of small arms doubled since 2011, the business add up to 76.15 million Euro.  Disturbingly, 55% of the individual export approvals were deliveries to third countries which were not in the NATO and were not put on an equal footing with NATO members.  Saudi-Arabia obtained most of the armament for 1.237 million Euro in total. Algeria and the United Arab Emirates are also in the top ten of buyers of German armament. Jan van Aken, DIE LINKE. says: “German munition export is completely out of control. There have been more approvals of armament exports in 2012 than ever. There is hardly any limitation for german armorers.”
