South African gold miners on strike

Last week, we already reported on the failure of wage talks in the South African gold mining industry, the probability and the dangers of strikes. On Tuesday night, the protests started with 80.000 people participation. According to the National Union of Mineworkers, the labor action could last until Christmas. Of the 23 companies that are affected by the protest, 17 already had to halt operations or have a very low productivity. Up to this point, nobody was harmed during the protests.
