Corruption in 278 Million euro tank deal

Trial against dubious tank deal with 135 Patria wheeled tanks

The tribunal in Vienna will start its investigations on the 278 Million euro deal of the Slovenian government with Patria wheeled tanks this Wednesday. Prosecutor Volker Sachmann already brought charges against five suspects in June 2011: arms trader Wolfgang Riedl and the intermediary Walter Wolf, as well as against the former Steyr-Daimler employees Wolfgang A., Wilfried K. and Hans-Peter W.

Riedl is under suspicion of attempted heavy fraud, criminal association, bribe, reconnaissance of a trade secret in favour of a foreign country and tax fraud. Wolf is ‘only’ under suspicion of belonging to a criminal association, as he is already charged with a corruption trail in Slovenia. The three remaining defendant are accused of industrial spying.
