High returns despite responsible investment rules – Norwegian Pension Fund yields 6.9% in 2016

The Norwegian Pension Fund (NPF) manages assets worth more than 840 billion €, constituting the largest government pension fund worldwide. The fund’s assets mainly stem from Norway’s oil revenues and are supposed to offset oil price fluctuations and maintain pensions for current and future generations.

Environmental Damages in Scotland

In August 2011, a spill in the Gannet Alpha platform 180 km from Aberdeen in Scotland has evolved into the worst spill in UK waters in the past decade. It is estimated that 216 tonnes – 1,300 barrels – have been discharged into the water.

Greenpeace, which criticized Shell for not providing sufficient information on the extent of the spill, pointed to the devastating impact the released oil can have on the marine and bird life in the area.   ... →
