Shell, Gazprom: Fracking in Siberia

In January 2014, a Joint Venture between Shell and Gazprom, Salym Petroleum Development, started horizontal drilling in the Bazhenov formation in Upper Salym. The pilot project foresees the construction of five horizontal wells in 2014-1015 which will use multi-frackturing technologies. The Bazhenov is considered to be one of the largest deposits of shale gas worldwide.
